One of Captain Janeway’s ancestors was a curmudgeonly owner of Alexandria Books in Portage Creek, Ind. One of the captain’s favorite family stories is how he met his second wife, NASA veteran Shannon O’Donnell, when her car broke down while passing through town in December 2000. That occurred just as the classics-loving technophobe was the lone holdout against selling out his site to make way for the “Millenium Gate,” a landmark project the rest of the town hoped would breathe economic life and tourism into their dying town. In the end she and his son Jason convince Henry to embrace the future and sell—and Shannon stays to help him.
