FIRST LOOK: U.S.S. Montgolfier for Attack Wing: Wave 23

WizKids/NECA will release Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 23 next month and StarTrek.com has the exclusive First Look at the ships in the upcoming expansion packs, starting with the U.S.S. Montgolfier.

The U.S.S. Montgolfier is a Federation Saber-class starship. These small but heavily armed vessels were involved in the Battle of Sector 001 and were used by the Federation throughout the Dominion War. The Montgolfier is even hardier, having one extra shield and one extra Tech Upgrade slot compared to a generic Saber-class vessel. The special ability for the U.S.S. Montgolfier allows it to switch target locks from one ship to another as a free action. How many times have you used a Target Lock only to watch that ship slip out of your firing arc? Now with the Montgolfier, you can choose a new target on the next turn as a free action, allowing you to perform another action. The Captain of the Montgolfier is Orfil Quinteros. Quinteros participated in the construction of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. As such, it seems fitting that Orfil Quinteros allows you to roll 3 defense dice and repair 1 damage to your hull for every Evade result. However, you also gain one Auxiliary Power Token for each point of damage you repair with this action, so use this ability judiciously.  

The U.S.S. Montgolfier brings fan favorite Wesley Crusher back for another guest appearance as a Crew Upgrade. Always full of option and ideas, this time Wesley Crusher allows you to disable his card to perform an action from your action bar, even when you have an Auxiliary Power Token next to your ship. Or, after you move you may disable his card to perform an action listed on one for your Tech Upgrades as a free action. Either way you use him, Wesley is going to help you get things done, which is why he is always a welcomed member of the crew. The Montgolfier was specially equipped to fight the Borg during the Battle for Sector 001. Federation engineers added a Heavy Graviton Beam Weapon Upgrade that adds +3 attack dice against the Borg. Additionally, defending Borg ships cannot roll defense dice against this attack, and all other defending ships roll -1 defense die against this attack. The Montgolfier also has standard Photon Torpedoes that use 5 attack dice at range 2-3, with the option to convert 1 of your Battle Stations results into 1 Critical Hit result.      
Subspace Transmitter is a Tech Upgrade that allows you to target a friendly ship within Range 1-3 and place a Scan Token beside your ship and the target ship, though, you cannot perform a Scan action as free action during that round. Thruster Array is an action that allows you to immediately perform a 1 reverse or 2 reverse maneuver, which is treated as a red maneuver. Backing up can be a great tactical maneuver that will catch your opponent off guard and hopefully give you the advantage you need to go in for the kill.
With upgraded weaponry powerful enough to take on the Borg and Wesley Crusher at your side, there is no challenge the U.S.S. Montgolfier can’t overcome. Recreate the Battle of Sector 001 or test your skills with the “Destroy the Weapon Platform” special scenario included in this pack. However you choose to play, the U.S.S. Montgolfier is sure to see table time at your next game or event.
