Neelix, a native of the planet Talax, joined the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager shortly after the ship arrived in the Delta quadrant. He has extensive knowledge regarding the life forms and foodstuffs the crew is likely to encounter within the quadrant, and, accordingly, acts as both the ship's guide and chef.
