Hi Captains,
We launched into the year on the heels of the release of Season 7, which introduced the personal reputation system and the advancing of the Romulan storyline with the introduction of the New Romulus adventure zone. Starship captains from around the Alpha Quadrant experienced the repercussions of the destruction of the Romulan homeworld, helping the newly-founded Romulan Republic build a new home.
We continued the Romulan story in May when we released the first true expansion to Star Trek Online, Legacy of Romulus. New captains were able to start the game as a Romulan, play through the experience of founding New Romulus, and help build a future for the struggling empire. Legacy was fantastically successful for us, breaking many records for the game, including new highs for the number of players playing. In fact, 2013 was the best year ever for STO! Your enthusiastic support has put another expansion on the schedule for late in 2014. Planning is in the early stages, so there is not much to share just yet, but we’re really hoping to provide something big for you all.
Denise Crosby joined the ranks of Star Trek alumni who have voiced characters in STO when she reprised her role as Tasha Yar in the fantastic “Temporal Ambassador” episode in February and again as Sela in Legacy of Romulus. She was followed by Michael Dorn voicing Worf in “Sphere of Influence” in October. We’re not able to share quite yet who we’re lining up for 2014, but the Star Trek Online team is actively working to bring other well-known faces and voices to the game. If you have a favorite character you’d like to see, visit the forum link below and let us know.
Season 8 introduced the Voth, our first space adventure zone, and our first battle zone. It also kicked off the storyline that takes us into the coming year. What is the real back story of the Dyson sphere? This story will unfold in featured episodes planned for the fourth anniversary and in Season 9. We won’t give too much away just yet, but we can hint that the Delta Quadrant, as explored in Star Trek: Voyager, will be taking a larger role in the coming year.
All told, it’s been a fantastic year for STO, and we’re really looking forward to 2014. We thank you all for spending your time in Star Trek Online with us, and wish you all the best in this holiday season!
