It’ll probably be as cold as Rura Penthe or Delta Vega come February, but IDW Publishing has a solution: relax in the warmth of your home and enjoy their latest trio of Star Trek comic books. Up first is Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness #2. The second chapter in the story building to the release of Star Trek Into Darkness finds new characters and fresh conflicts threatening Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew. Roberto Orci – co-writer/co-producer of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness -- oversees this title, which has been penned by Mike Johnson, with David Messina on art and cover duty. Countdown to Darkness #2 will run 32 pages and cost $3.99. Be sure to talk to your local retailer about the wholly unique CGC-graded variant cover.

Next, there’s Star Trek #18, penned by Mike Johnson and Ryan Parrott, with art by Claudia Balboni and a cover by Tim Bradstreet. Also overseen by Orci, this tale shines a light on Uhura, dipping into her past and depicting her first encounter with Spock. Star Trek #18 will run 32 pages and cost $3.99, with variants set to include a photo cover and a Tim Bradstreet sketch cover.

Finally, fans can read the full Hive saga by purchasing Star Trek: The Next Generation: Hive, penned by longtime TNG writer-producer Brannon Braga, along with Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett. Joe Corroney renders the art and cover. The story: It’s the distant future and the Borg and its king, Locutus, have assimilated pretty much the entire galaxy. That means a trip into the past for Captain Picard and the Enterprise crew, though time is slipping away fast. Hive runs 104 pages and costs $17.99.
