Benedict Cumberbatch, Star Trek's new Khan, has just lined up his next project. The actor will join Tye Sheridan (Mud) and Will Poulter (We're The Millers) in The Yellow Birds. According to Variety, the story follows two young soldiers (Sheridan and Poulter) who meet in boot camp and are taken under the wing of a more-experienced sergeant (Cumberbatch) once they're sent off to Iraq. The film will be based on the book of the same name by Kevin Powers, David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints) on board to direct.

Cumberbatch has also wrapped The Imitation Game, which casts him as Alan Turing, the English mathematician and logician who helped crack the Enigma code during World War II. The film will open in November, followed in December by The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, in which he voices Smaug and the Necromancer.
