Zoe Saldana has earned her sci-fi stripes as Uhura, Gamora and Neytiri in, respectively, Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avatar, but she plays a decidedly modern-day character in her latest film, Infinitely Polar Bear. The drama follows an estranged couple (Saldana and Mark Ruffalo) and their two young daughters, whose lives are thrown for a loop when the mom heads off from Boston to graduate school in New York, leaving the bi-polar dad to care for the girls.

Infinitely Polar Bear, which was produced by J.J. Abrams, was an indie feature picked up for release by Sony Pictures Classics after it debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. It will open on June 19.
