The new
Star Trek Communicator #154 (February-March) is starting off 2005 with a bang. The latest edition includes a rare interview with one of the most intriguing actors in
Star Trek lore,
Brent Spiner. In the issue, Spiner talks about his three-episode stint on
Star Trek: Enterprise as the "eccentric but very committed revolutionary" Dr. Arik Soong, plus what it was like to be directed by long-time friend
LeVar Burton ("
Geordie La Forge").
"It was terrific! LeVar did a great job ... He is totally in control and knows what he is doing. He is the real deal, as far as directing is concerned."
Also in this issue is a discussion about the importance of mirror universes in the Star Trek series. "It's always a lot of fun to take your characters and put them in bizarre scenarios," says writer/producer Mike Sussman.
Other news includes previews of some of the Star Trek "goodies" that will be available in 2005, including the Star Trek: Enterprise series on DVD, plus Star Trek games for your mobile phone.
And, if you're having trouble deciding on where your next vacation will be, the Communicator's piece on Vulcan, Alberta, may be able to lend you a hand. Forget warm, sunny beaches —imagine this view: "The starship — 31 feet long overall, 9 feet deep and with a primary hull 15 feet across — is perched on a 9-foot-high concrete base, weighing five tons in all. An imposing sight as you enter the town from the highway."
