The latest issue of
Star Trek Communicator (#153, December – January 2005) embraces the lingering impact the show has had on its fans, young and old. The 100-page magazine is filled with noteworthy stories ranging from popular country music singer Brad Paisley's unforgettable meeting with the two most famous captains to Terry Lee Rioux, author of the ultra-private
DeForest Kelley's biography.
"He was such a quiet and unassuming person that I really had to talk to so many different people and create a portrait that was made up of very small pieces," Rioux says of gathering information for Kelley's biography.
With the help of model Bobbi Sue Luther and pro wrestler Paul "Big Show" Wight, Enterprise is putting some color back into the series with the re-introduction of the Orions. Also, in this edition, we reignite some old debates by showcasing the original series and its less than stellar third season (or was it?) and profiling the mysterious "first captain," Robert T. April, and the surprising impact his character has had on the Star Trek series.
Also look for regular features, such as Building Treknology. In issue 153, writer Terry Ray Hiller talks about intelligent space probes and how close we are to launching technology comparable to Nomad or Friendship 1. Plus, Richard Arnold's entertaining Data Access answers some of the more pressing Trek questions, like "Are Rick Berman and ESPN's Chris Berman related?" To find the answer to this question and others, pick up a copy of 153, with exotic cover star Bobbi Sue Luther, and find out!
