Star Trek fan, Rittenhouse Archives/ScifiHobby.com have announced the release of a new set of cards containing classic quips from the classic series.
"The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Original Series Trading Cards," to be released in late February 2004, is an all-new series that will feature the most memorable, witty, funny and thought-provoking lines that have become so identifiable with the original Star Trek. The series will also feature a wide assortment of new photos that have never before appeared on trading cards.
"The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Original Series Trading Cards” will also feature two autograph cards per box, including signatures from all of the living stars of the show — William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, George Takei and Majel Barrett. In addition to signature cards from these living legends of sci-fi, there will also be a "classic” signature series featuring autograph card designs used in the highly popular "Star Trek: The Original Series" card sets issued from 1997 to 1999. More than a dozen Star Trek actors who never signed cards as part of those earlier collections will now lend their signatures to Rittenhouse's new series, including Bruce Mars, Sally Kellerman, Julie Newmar, Sean Kenney, Don Marshall, Mary-Linda Rapelye, Eddie Paskey, Lois Jewell and others. The numbering of these cards will also pick up at A86, where the autograph cards from those past sets left off.
The base set of "The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Original Series Trading Cards” will contain 110 cards and more than 200 different quotes. There will also be numerous bonus card sets, including the following:
- 9 "Space, The Final Frontier” cards featuring a montage of the Enterprise crew and many of the key aliens faced throughout their voyages
- 18 "The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Animated Series” cards with images and memorable quotes from the 22-episode cartoon series which debuted in 1973
- 9 "The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Comics” cards, with artwork and more memorable quotes from the first 9 Gold Key comics that were introduced in 1967
- 12 "Star Trek TV Guide” cards, depicting Original Series covers from TV Guide dating back to 1967
- 9 "Starfleet's Finest” cards, showcasing the core bridge crew of the Enterprise, and which are limited to only 333 of each card.
Each box of "The 'Quotable' Star Trek: Original Series Trading Cards” will contain 40 packs with a suggested retail price of $2.00 per pack and $80.00 per box. Each pack will contain 7 cards. Collectors will also be able to store their collections in a custom designed collector's album, which will retail for $39.99, and contain an exclusive costume card of Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott.
Available now is the "Legends of Star Trek: Spock" set of cards, featuring everyone's favorite Vulcan. Following on last year's sold-out premiere edition set, Rittenhouse Archives has released the second in an on-going series highlighting the legends of the Star Trek Universe. Each card in the series is printed on thick 20-point stock and is foiled stamped on the front and will feature some rare images of the most logical and "human" Vulcan officer.
