A personal favorite, "
The Undiscovered Country" felt like real
Star Trek in every way. Sure,
Kirk had a bit of attitude towards the
Klingons, but
Spock, as ever, balanced his human friend's anger with peaceful overtures to a race that, in their time at least, was still not entirely trustworthy in the eyes of our Federation heroes.
The film had a bit of everything: action, treachery, duplicity, even comedy; Sulu got his own ship, a new Vulcan character Valeris (a pre-Sex and the City Kim Cattrall), blood globules in zero-g, Iman, a starship load of Shakespearean references. What's not to like?
For the DVD version of the film, director Nicholas Meyer has made a few minor changes, hardly 30 seconds worth. But the real treat, as ever, are the EXTRAS! Audio and text commentary, documentaries, six featurettes, a DeForest Kelley tribute, trailers, the works.
See the movie yet again, spend hours with the extras and rediscover the Undiscovered Country. [Tim]
