Fan favorite
Chase Masterson, who played the Dabo girl
Leeta on
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has just released her long-awaited debut CD, "Thrill of the Chase." The CD is now available to
order online and has been garnering some very complimentary reviews.
A foray into music is nothing new for the multi-talented Masterson, who starred in many musicals and had a nightclub act in Los Angeles singing jazz and blues prior to being cast on DS9. "I've always had a passion for the music of the 30s, 40s and 50s," says Masterson. "For me, it has a kind of romance, a sensuality, that is richer than any other."
The disc has two additional elements which Trek fans have been drawn to; Masterson dedicates her steamy rendition of "Fever" to "one of my favorite actresses, Nana Visitor, who played Major Kira, and one of my favorite episodes of Deep Space Nine." And Lolita Fatjo, who was Script Coordinator on Star Trek for 13 years, is Executive Producer.
As with all of Chase's projects, a portion of the proceeds for "Thrill of the Chase" goes to charity, and Chase has chosen to support Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa.
"I'm honored to have been on a show such as Star Trek, whose fans have such an awareness about the world. And it's a privilege that, together, we are able to support a charity with such integrity as the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa. I found them through the World Health Organization; I asked WHO to refer a group which gives our donations straight to the people in need, not to big buildings and salaries. FHSSA's grass root efforts help people in the face of circumstances so daunting that I can't imagine them: starvation, homelessness, and the relentless AIDS pandemic, which affects as many as 1 in 3 people in those countries.
"We all know what it's like to be in need, but nothing touches this reality. Join us in helping these people."
