Get ready for a new chapter of Star Trek excitement with STARTREK.COM's Online Star Trek Book Club! On the last Tuesday of every month, gather online in our event chat room with special guests and other fans to discuss Star Trek titles. Our next event is taking place on Tuesday, November 25 at 3:00 p.m. PST/6:00 p.m. EST. It's the only official Online Star Trek Book Club on the Web and it's only at STARTREK.COM.
The Star Trek universe spans five television series, ten movies and an animated series, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of Star Trek books have been published over the decades, both fiction and non-fiction, making Star Trek not just a film and television phenomenon but a publishing one as well.
The Online Star Trek Book Club is an area in STARTREK.COM's Community section dedicated to Star Trek book fans with a new book featured each month. The Club provides online chat events with authors, fans and Star Trek celebrities, in-depth information about a given month's featured book including how to purchase the book online, plus, coming soon, a poll for fans to help us choose the next featured book.
The next Featured Book for The Online Star Trek Book Club will be the Star Trek New Frontier book "Gods Above," by New York Times bestselling author Peter David. The New Frontier books, with Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and the U.S.S. Excalibur were created by David in 1997 and span over a dozen novels. "Gods Above" is the 13th New Frontier book, and depicts the conflict between Captain Calhoun and the Beings – aliens who appear as ancient Earth gods. Decades earlier, Captain James T. Kirk encountered a being who had been known on Earth as the Greek god Apollo (see the Original Series episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?"), and now the rest of Apollo's fellow "gods" have returned and wish to be worshipped again. For fans unfamiliar with the New Frontier books, they take place in the 24th century (like TNG, DS9 and Voyager) and feature amongst its cast of characters some familiar faces like TNG's Robin Lefler and Elizabeth Shelby as well as M'Ress and Arex from the Animated Series.
The Club's next event will take place November 25 at 3:00 p.m. PST/6:00 p.m. EST, with an online chat with our special guest "Gods Above" author Peter David. Fans can log in and chat with each other and our special guest about the book as well as the New Frontier series. Fans can get ready for the event by purchasing a copy of "Gods Above" (also available in eBook form) and can also send advance questions to the guests now at bookclub@startrek.com.
In order to participate in the Online Star Trek Book Club, fans need to register. (Registration with STARTREK.COM is free and is required to join in chats and to post on the Star Trek Message Boards. Registered members are able to customize portions of the site, gain access to the STARTREK.COM newsletters and more).
