Get ready for a new chapter of Star Trek excitement with STARTREK.COM's Online Star Trek Book Club! On the last Tuesday of every month, gather online in our event chat room with special guests and other fans to discuss Star Trek titles. Our next event is taking place on Tuesday, October 28 at 3:00 p.m. PST/6:00 p.m. EST. It's the only official Online Star Trek Book Club on the Web and it's only at STARTREK.COM.
The Star Trek universe spans five television series, ten movies and an animated series, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of Star Trek books have been published over the decades, both fiction and non-fiction, making Star Trek not just a film and television phenomenon but a publishing one as well.
The Online Star Trek Book Club will be an area in STARTREK.COM's Community section dedicated to Star Trek book fans with a new book featured each month. The Club will provide online chat events with authors, fans and Star Trek celebrities, in-depth information about a given month's featured book including how to purchase the book online, plus a poll for fans to help us choose the next featured book.
The next Featured Book for The Online Star Trek Book Club will be the New York Times best-selling book "Serpents Among the Ruins: The Lost Era 2311," by David George III, the author of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine book "Mission Gamma: Twilight," and "The 34th Rule" co-authored with Armin Shimerman ("Quark"). "Serpent Among the Ruins: The Lost Era 2311" tells the tale of the Tomed Incident, an encounter between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire referred to in the TNG episode "The Neutral Zone," which spurred the long period of no contact between the Federation and the Romulans between 2311 and 2364. Key players in the novel include U.S.S. Enterprise-B Captain John Harriman (who appeared in the prologue of "Star Trek Generations" at the launch of that vessel), Demora Sulu (Hikaru Sulu's daughter and Enterprise-B Helm Officer, also seen in "Star Trek Generations"), Klingon Chancellor Azetbur (last seen in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country") and others.
The Club's next event will take place October 28 at 3:00 p.m. PST/6:00 p.m. EST, with an online chat with author David George III. Fans can log in and chat with the author about the book and the Lost Era series. Fans can get ready for the event by purchasing a copy of "Serpents Among the Ruins: The Lost Era 2311" (also available in eBook form) and can also send advance questions to the guests now at bookclub@startrek.com.
