UPDATE 05.14.07: Season Three scripts now available! Click here for details.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Star Trek, the family of series creator Gene Roddenberry is preparing to offer a very special set of collectible items.
Roddenberry.com has teamed with CafePress.com to release bound volumes of the original Star Trek TV scripts. The project, which plans to release limited edition volumes each month over the next three years, will include scripts for the original Star Trek series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, as well asThe Animated Series.
To commemorate this milestone year, the Roddenberry family has included a number of special-edition treats in and with each volume available during 2006. Season One books sold prior to December 31, 2006 will include Limited Edition 40th Anniversary cover art. In addition, from the family's personal archives, a rarely-seen picture of Gene Roddenberry along with a quote from the show creator will be printed in the first few pages of each 40th Anniversary volume. Lastly, never-before-released special-edition merchandise featuring Gene Roddenberry quotes and signatures from his only son Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, Jr. will accompany each volume for the month that it is on sale.
The first book to be released contains the script for the original Star Trek pilot episode "The Cage." The limited edition book will be available for purchase on August 8th at 10am EST at cafepress.com/roddenberry. The book, along with its special-edition merchandise, will only be available for sale until September 5th. In addition, this particular book of the show's first pilot will also contain a very special foreword by Eugene Roddenberry, Jr., providing his thoughts on this historic episode.
The Star Trek pilot episode "The Cage" was originally presented to NBC in 1964, and rejected. But, for the first time in television history, NBC commissioned a second pilot, which eventually aired in 1966 and began the legendary series we know today. While "The Cage" includes many elements of the original Star Trek series, it has notable differences in the cast and terminology. It is also said to be the purest example of creator Gene Roddenberry's vision. "The Cage" eventually aired in 1988 as part of "The Star Trek Saga: From One Generation to the Next", a 2-hour retrospective special.
The first volumes of The Original Series will follow "The Cage" in production with a release planned for September 2006.
All books will be shrink wrapped for preservation and collectibility. For more information, visit the link below.
