For
Star Trek fans, especially fans of Klingons, the end of
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine brought an end to an ongoing story of war, personal and political intrigue and, because
Star Trek: Voyager for the most part took place away from the confines of the Alpha Quadrant, and an end to the ongoing story of the Klingon Empire. But a new book, the first in a series, addresses that void.
"The Left Hand of Destiny - Book One" from Pocket Books, picks up where the DS9 series finale "What You Leave Behind" left off. Penned by J.G. Hertzler (who played the pivotal Chancellor Martok) and Jeffrey Lang, the book also features Worf and his son Alexander.
Upon returning to the Klingon Homeworld of Qo'noS after the victory against The Dominion, Martok is prepared to endure the long rituals and ceremonies that accompany a new Chancellor returning after a victory. When a usurper appears to challenge Martok's new order with a violent coup that wipes out the High Council, the Empire finds itself plunged into chaos, rebellion and civil war.
Hertzler played the monocular Klingon General-turned-Chancellor for over two dozen episodes, and also played the Hirogen Hunter from the Voyager episode "Tsunkatse" and now on Enterprise playing another Klingon, Archer's Advocate Kolos in this week's episode "Judgment." Lang has written several previous Star Trek books, including "Section 31: Abyss" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation - Immortal Coil."
