Back in 2001,
Vaughn Armstrong was already a
Star Trek veteran who had played numerous aliens in
Star Trek: The Next Generation,
Deep Space Nine and
Voyager. But on the convention guest circuit he was a rookie.
Booked to do a show in Blackpool, England, the actor had visions of what convention appearances would be like: there would be fellow Trek actors on stage with him answering questions and the room would be filled with several fans. What he hadn't anticipated was stepping on stage, by himself, in front of 3,000 people! After witnessing how Robert Picardo entertained the crowd by singing some of his parody songs, Vaughn got the idea of not just singing his own songs, but playing the ukelele and harmonica as well.
The one-man band concept was fine, but Vaughn began adding some of his fellow convention veterans and actors, like Casey Biggs, Richard Herd and Steve Rankin, along with long-time Trek visual effects supervisor Ron B. Moore and actor and friend William Jones.
Once STARTREK.COM became aware of this burgeoning musical phenomenon, we asked to record one of their jam sessions and have a sit down talk with the group. In this video (click on top photo), you'll hear three Armstrong and company originals, like "Enterprise Blues" and "Star Trek Woman Jones" plus some background on the band.
We hope you enjoy the video, and we hope you get to see them live too!
