An American citizen from 20th-century Earth, Butch was a member of an anti-government militia cell, based in a house 30 kilometers northeast of Phoenix. He was one of the outlaw militiamen who held Torres and Chakotay prisoner, believing them to be government agents, after their shuttle crashed in 1996 Arizona.
