On September 28, 1987 the long awaited second chapter of the Star Trek saga began with "Encounter at Farpoint." Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced a new captain, a new crew and a redesigned U.S.S. Enterprise to a world that had been eagerly anticipating their arrival for over 17 years. Fans of the original series and new viewers were not disappointed and by the time the show reached its dramatic final episode seven years later it was clear that The Next Generation had made history. Not only by re-inventing and re-invigorating the Star Trek universe but also by becoming one of the most popular and successful syndicated television shows in history.
