British comedian, actor, and writer Simon Pegg is signed to portray
Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the new
J.J. Abrams-directed "
Star Trek" feature film.
Pegg was born in Gloucester, England in 1970 and moved to London in 1993 where his career began to take off. Starting out as a stand-up comedian, Pegg eventually moved on to TV comedy roles and a regular slot on BBC Radio 4's The 99p Challenge.
In 2001, Pegg appeared in the critically-lauded HBO series Band of Brothers, then later when on to write and star in the hit U.K. film "Shaun of the Dead" (2004), a zombie spoof. The success of "Shaun" led to his teaming again with director Edgar Wright and co-star Nick Frost for the hilarious cop movie send up "Hot Fuzz" (2007).
Pegg's next film, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," co-stars Megan Fox and Kirsten Dunst and is scheduled for release in late 2008.
