In this exclusive video interview,
George Takei discusses why he came out to the media as a gay man, and the repercussions of that decision.
George visited with us at our new video production studio located at CBS' Television City in Hollywood. This marks the first of a new series of interviews we plan to bring you throughout this 40th anniversary year.
In this 29-minute piece, George talks with STARTREK.COM'S Sandy Stone about the politics of gay rights, about growing up feeling ashamed of both his ethnicity and his sexuality, and about the slow advances being made in understanding and tolerance. He also talks about his upcoming speaking tour and other projects, including an episode of the fan-produced Internet series "Star Trek: New Voyages."
A Star Trek legend who has been associated with the franchise since the second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before," George embodies much of what the show stands for. We are therefore extremely proud to present Mr. Takei as our first guest in this video series celebrating 40 years of Star Trek.
So without further ado, here's George ...!
