Trek Alums Gather a Few Globes! (UPDATE)

Plenty of ex-Star Trek stars were on hand this past Sunday night for the Golden Globe Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

The Nominees and Winners with Star Trek connections were:

  • Motion Picture (Drama) – "The Aviator," written by "Star Trek Nemesis" scribe John Logan. [Winner]
  • Screenplay, Motion Picture – John Logan for "The Aviator"
  • Actress, Motion Picture – Ashley Judd for "De-Lovely" (Judd was in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes "Darmok" and "The Game" as Ensign Robin Lefler)
  • Actress, Supporting Role, Motion Picture – Virginia Madsen for "Sideways" (Madsen was seen in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Unforgettable" as Kellin)
  • Actress, Television Series – Teri Hatcher for Desperate Housewives (Hatcher was seen in the TNG episode "The Outrageous Okona" as Lt. Robinson) [Winner]
  • Actor, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television – Patrick Stewart for "The Lion in Winter" (Stewart, of course, is Captain Jean-Luc Picard in TNG)
  • Actor, Supporting Role, Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television – William Shatner for Boston Legal (Shatner is the inimitable Captain James T. Kirk) [Winner]

Although he didn't specifically win for Screenplay, John Logan could at least be very proud that the Motion Picture (Drama) award went to "The Aviator." Same goes for Patrick Stewart, who also did not win in his category (Actor, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for "The Lion in Winter"), but his co-star Glenn Close did win for the Actress award in that category. The TV film was also produced by Stewart's production company.

A giddy Teri Hatcher was very thankful for her award, one in which she was up against many of her other co-stars. (Surely, her key role in a second season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation honed her acting skills and paved the way for her to take on the challenges of Desperate Housewives!)

William Shatner, appearing very gracious for his award, gave thanks to his children, his wife, production people and series creator David E. Kelley.

Deserving mention for the best Trek reference of the night was Robin Williams who, in his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille award, thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for the honor and also for the design of the ceremony's venue, saying that it looked like it was made for "Star Trek: The Musical."

The annual awards ceremony features nominees voted on by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
