David Livingston, who began his
Star Trek career as a Unit Production Manager on
Star Trek: The Next Generation before becoming a series producer, is now known as the most prolific director of
Star Trek whose work encompasses all four of the modern shows. In his down time, David has recently turned his hand to experimental photography, of which he has an exhibition, entitled "Slice of Life," taking place at The Garage Gallery in Los Angeles over the weekend of January 22 – 23, 2005.
"Photography was my hobby as a teen," Livingston told STARTREK.COM. "I gave it up because I hated the darkroom and photo lab results/prices. A year ago, after almost 35 years, I decided to give it another go because of the development of digital photography. After more than 10,000 pix in 2004, my love affair with Photoshop CS, my Mac G4, Canon 1D Mark II camera & i9900 printer continues."
As for his inspirations, he cites his environment as a key factor for his first exhibit. "I live in Beachwood Canyon below the Hollywood sign which became an obsession and therefore the subject of my first exhibit, which just ended at the ArcLight theater [formerly the legendary Cinerama Dome] in Hollywood."
The Garage Gallery is located at 2700 N. Beachwood Drive, a mile north of Franklin. A portion of the sales will benefit Schools on Wheels, supporting the educational needs of homeless children. This exhibit will feature approximately 90 pieces of David's other work [examples above].
David Livingston's recent Enterprise directing assignments include the fan-favorite "Kir'Shara," and the upcoming episode "United," scheduled to air February 4, 2005 on UPN.
