Veteran television and Broadway writer Shimon Wincelberg, known to
Trek fans as S. Bar-David, has passed away at the age of 80. Wincelberg died in a nursing home after struggling with a long illness.
Wincelberg, born in Kiel, Germany, began writing for TV in 1947, continuing up to the '90s. His credits include: Mannix, Police Woman, Gunsmoke, Lost in Space, Law & Order and others. Overall, his résumé boasts nearly 100 television scripts, notably the Star Trek episodes "Dagger of the Mind" and "The Galileo Seven."
In 1959 he wrote the Broadway play "Kataki," inspired by his World War II service in the Army's 27th Division, Combat Intelligence.
Wincelberg began his literary career as a short story writer for magazines such as The New Yorker, Harper's Bazaar and Punch.
