More News on "Beam Me Up Scotty"

Planet Xpo's "Beam Me Up Scotty ... One Last Time" convention to honor James Doohan ("Montgomery Scott") is approaching sooner than you think. On the last weekend of August (events scheduled from 8/27 to 8/30), fans will be able to meet and get an in-person autograph from James Doohan. And, to say it once more, this will be your last chance.

Fans will also have the option of getting a special photo with their favorite living cast member of the Original Series, or, in a special offer where it will be made available for the first, last and only time ever, get their picture with the entire living cast of the original Star Trek!  Due to the uniqueness of this event, and as the tickets will be in great demand and limited in number, the organizers encourage everyone to pre-purchase their autograph tickets online.

You can find out more by checking out the Planet Xpo link here or below. Here's a rundown on the remaining tickets:

  • 12 reserved seating
  • 23 Bronze tickets
  • 15 Silver tickets
  • 14 Gold tickets
  • 2 Platinum tickets

Note: The special 'Scotty's Star' tickets have sold out!

The tickets won't last much longer though, and online and by phone ticket sales will close on August 15th. So if you haven't already, Planet Xpo suggests you buy your tickets now!

Also, please note that the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation is a charity that is now involved with the event. For more Information, click on this link.

Everytime we update the convention, we include  a James Doohan story. This one is from a family who attended a convention in Kansas City:

Dear 'Scotty,'

I would like to take a moment to say THANK YOU for giving of your time and talents to make Star Trek the enjoyable experience that it was.  Your character will live on far after you and I have gone on.

We met once at a convention in Kansas City, at the old Hotel President. As this was a small facility, attendees had to make good use of the "starship elevator" between ground floor and penthouse meeting rooms.  My wife, daughter and I shared a few rides with you and it was a real pleasure to get to know you a little better, even in those brief moments.

Later, after giving a short talk in one of the meeting rooms, you were walking out the center aisle and I let Amy (who was only 2 or 3 years old at the time) run out to meet you. You picked her up, gave her a big kiss and declared "ah Lassie, yer beautiful."  The crowd roared and she beamed!  A moment she has not forgotten to this day.

We send you all our best wishes for good health and happiness from this day forward.  Thank you Mr. Doohan, for giving us an unforgettable character, and for your gentleness and kindness in person.  May God always bless you.

With Warmest regards,

Doug & Jan Cummins, Amy (Cummins) Gallentine
