Rave Reviews for Stewart in Showtime's "Lion in Winter"
The Hollywood trade papers heaped substantial praise upon "The Lion in Winter," a made-for-cable movie starring Patrick Stewart ("Jean-Luc Picard") as King Henry II, airing on Showtime this Sunday. Daily Variety notes that Stewart "cuts a fine figure as the bellowing Henry," and The Hollywood Reporter sees "Emmy potential" in the movie. "Henry feels the exuberance of absolute authority and the bitter loneliness of realizing that, his power notwithstanding, there is no worthy successor to lead the vast empire he assembled," the paper's reviewer states. "The part requires an enormous emotional range but nothing, it seems, that Stewart can't handle." Glenn Close co-stars as Eleanor of Aquitaine, the king's rebellious wife. Again, that's Sunday night on Showtime; check your local listings for airtimes.
