Plummer, Langella, Murphy Nab Tony Award Noms
Nominations for the 2004 Antoinette Perry Awards (more commonly known as the Tony Awards) were announced yesterday, with a trio of Star Trek's most distinguished guest-stars receiving nods for their performances on the Broadway stage this past year.
In the category of Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, Christopher Plummer has been nominated for his performance in the title role of Shakespeare's "King Lear." Plummer's adept handle on the Bard's language is nothing new to Star Trek fans, who remember him as the Shakespeare-quoting Klingon General Chang from "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country."
Also nominated in the same category is Frank Langella for the play "Match." Langella played the Bajoran Minister Jaro Essa on DS9 in the Second Season episodes "The Homecoming," "The Circle" and "The Seige."
Donna Murphy is chasing her third Tony in the catgory of Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her work in "Wonderful Town." Murphy appeared in "Star Trek: Insurrection" as the Ba'ku Anij.
The 58th Annual Tony Awards will be presented on June 6, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and the ceremony will be broadcast on CBS. For more information, visit the official Tony Awards site at www.tonyawards.com.
STARTREK.COM wishes luck to all Star Trek alumni up for awards.

Bakula Tells Wayne Brady a Role Awaits
Today, daytime television talk show host Wayne Brady, a fervent Enterprise supporter who frequently has the show's star, Scott Bakula (Captain Jonathan Archer), on his show, was told by the actor that if the show comes back next season he would have a part on it. "I've already put the word out," said Bakula. There is no word yet on whether Brady would be playing an alien or human. We suggest someone give Mr. Brady a planet and a name and let him improvise!
Ch-Check Out the Beastie Boys
The latest video from the Brooklyn band (for "Ch-Check It Out") pays homage to the Original Series of Star Trek as the three members beam in during the opening of the video wearing TOS uniforms. They then set off on a bizzare adventure that takes place in an urban setting, a restaurant and, seemingly, the Florida Everglades (a parody of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom) then back to the streets of New York. In the course of the video we see our intrepid heroes fighting each other with lirpas (from "Amok Time"), then later two of the bandmembers are "killed" by phaser fire. The remaining Beastie is seen sitting on the curb sobbing, presumably with remorse at having offed his bandmates. To see it for yourself, visit this link and type "Beastie Boys" in the search line: http://launch.yahoo.com/musicvideos/
The new, but long awaited, Beastie Boys album "To The 5 Boroughs" will be out in June.
