It's that time of year again — time to see
William Shatner turn his favorite hobby into a charity fundraiser. For the 14th year, Shatner is mounting his
Hollywood Charity Horse Show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, with main events taking place Saturday afternoon and evening, May 1.
The afternoon is "Kid's Day," where families participate in a variety of activities such as petting zoos, arts and crafts, interactions with police, fire and military personnel, and live demonstrations. At about 5:30, the arena show begins, featuring Freestyle Reining with Shatner and other riders exhibiting their equestrian skills. As in the past, various Star Trek fan groups will be present in costume, adding a futuristic flair to the otherwise Old West motif.
The evening's Western Dinner Party features a concert by country singer/songwriter/guitarist Brad Paisley — a friend of Shatner who has collaborated with him on an upcoming album.
Proceeds from ticket sales, a silent auction and other fund-raising activities will benefit children's charities, chiefly the Ahead With Horses therapeutic program for handicapped children. Other beneficiaries are the Camp Max Straus Foundation and Tilden's Children Charities.
