UPDATE 04.27.04: Enterprise has won "enormous" support in the USA Today "Save Our Shows" survey, with a record 70% of respondents urging UPN to keep the show on the air, according to this USATODAY.com story. (Original story, 04.13.04) Spring traditionally brings a rash of announcements from television networks regarding which shows are coming back in the fall and which shows are not. USA Today is currently having a poll on their Web site listing a number of television shows they call "on the bubble," meaning that they are potentially on the chopping block, and amongst the shows listed is Star Trek: Enterprise.
Enterprise, which has struggled ratings-wise this year, is nearing the end of its third season and the conclusion of its season-long story arc involving Enterprise's sojourn into The Expanse to confront the Xindi. As Season 3 was by far Enterprise's best, it would be a sad irony if didn't make it to a fourth season given its obvious improvements.
Thanks to the beauty of the Internet, fans have an instant voice. If you are interested in voicing an opinion, through the ease of a mouse click, you should visit USA Today's site via the link below and vote. (Voting will continue through Monday, April 19.)
In other efforts to keep Enterprise on the air, Star Trek fan Tim Brazeal has founded the Web site "SaveEnterprise.com" (also linked below) with contact information for UPN, CBS and Viacom executives where fans can send letters and comments supporting the show.
The current situation is nothing new to Star Trek. When the Original Series was threatened with cancellation after its second season in 1968, a fan letter-writing campaign bought a reprieve from NBC executives.
