James Doohan, one of the most cherished members of the Star Trek roster of stars, is set to retire from the convention circuit for good, but not before one final hurrah. On August 28-30, at the luxurious Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, organizers Planet Xpo will present what is billed as the final public appearance of James Montgomery Doohan with "Beam Me Up, Scotty ... One Last Time." This show, like many conventions nowadays, is an officially licensed show by agreement with Paramount.

Billed as the "Biggest Event of the Year" by the Official Star Trek Fan Club, this event will feature the entire living cast of the classic Star Trek TV series: William Shatner (James T. Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov), George Takei (Hikaru Sulu), Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand), Majel Barrett Roddenberry (Christine Chapel), and, of course, Scotty himself, Jimmy Doohan.

Other featured guests include dozens of actors who appeared as guest stars on The Original Series and in the first six movies that featured the original cast, plus more celebrities, astronauts, X-Prize contestants, artists, and high-tech industry CEOs.

This event will be highlighted by a sumptuous banquet and "roast" of James Doohan, featuring a major celebrity comic actor as "Roastmaster."

Sponsors for this spectacular event include the X-Prize Foundation, the Official Star Trek Fan Club, Art Asylum, Lightspeed Fine Art, and artist Michael David Ward.

A new Trek parody, the short film "Final Mission," will make its worldwide premiere at the event, showing on a double bill with the critically-acclaimed "Roddenberry on Patrol," featuring actors from the classic Trek series as well as Star Trek: Voyager.

As part of the event, money will be raised to help finance the placement of a star for Doohan on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. UPDATE: The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has awarded Doohan a star on the Walk of Fame, and a ceremony will take place following the convention on Tuesday, August 31, at 10:30 a.m. at 7021 Hollywood Blvd.

There will also be two charity auctions to raise money for Doohan's favorite charities, Cowboys for Kids and the Equestrian Special Olympics.
