Star Trek: Voyager and
Paramount Home Entertainment will commemorate the current success of the NASA space missions and support the future of space exploration with a celebration at The California Science Center in Los Angeles on February 19, it was announced today by Thomas Lesinski, President, Paramount Pictures, Worldwide Home Entertainment. The complete first season of
Star Trek: Voyager will be released on DVD in the U.S. and Canada on February 24 and elsewhere internationally in May.
"Star Trek: Voyager and the Star Trek franchise play unique roles in the imagination and vision that drives space exploration," said Lesinski. "There are many links between the Star Trek and space research communities. As a result, we wanted to honor the real-life heroes — both those who go into space and those on the ground. With the success of the Mars landings and the President's call for renewed space exploration, we felt this was the right time to salute them."
The evening will include a reception in the Air and Space Museum at The California Science Center with remarks from special guest Sallie Baliunas, Ph.D., Astrophysicist and Past Deputy Director of Mount Wilson Observatory, along with shuttle astronaut Dr. Janice Voss (pictured). The Star Trek: Voyager cast — Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres), Ethan Phililips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Tim Russ (Tuvok) and Garrett Wang (Harry Kim) and other Trek related personnel such as technical consultant and executive story editor Andre Bormanis from Star Trek: Enterprise — will also donate a commemorative DVD to Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in salute of its recent remarkable achievements.
Individuals from NASA including Dr. Voss, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and other space organizations such as The Planetary Society will be attending along with crew members from all the Star Trek series.
