The rains in Seattle have let up for a moment, and the set-up for this weekend's Creation Entertainment convention is underway. The event, officially titled "Creation Entertainment Salutes Star Trek, Stargate and Star Wars" may include some other guests from other franchises, but
Star Trek tops the bill. The futuristic-looking Doubletree Hotel in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue is the place to be this weekend for local fans.
Appearing at the convention are Star Trek: Voyager stars Tim Russ ("Tuvok"), Robert Picardo ("The Doctor"), Ethan Phillips ("Neelix"), Robert Beltran ("Chakotay"), Martin Rayner (Voyager's Dr. Chaotica) as well as television veterans Bobby Clark and Scott MacDonald.
Bobby Clark was a stuntman in television's heyday and though most Star Trek fans wouldn't recognize him if he walked past, we've all seen him — he was the man in the Gorn suit in "Arena." Clark also performed as stuntman and actor in such classic shows as Gunsmoke, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Perry Mason, as well as the films "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," "The Ten Commandments" and "Poltergeist."
Scott MacDonald has most recently appeared in Star Trek as the Xindi-Reptilian on Enterprise, and has also appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Voyager, as well as other genre shows such Space: Above and Beyond, The X-Files, Charmed and Stargate SG-1.
Fans attending the convention have a chance not only to hear stories and anecdotes from these and other actors, but Voyager fans in particular are in for some entertainment on Saturday night with "The Voyager Vaudeville Show," featuring music by Russ, Picardo's trademark terribly funny/humorously awful Trek song parodies and a short play called Housecall, performed by Picardo and Phillips, reprising their Voyager roles.
All of this plus all kinds of Star Trek and science fiction merchandise in the dealer room, a trivia competition, retrospectives, documentaries and trailers, plus a look at the bonus materials on the upcoming Voyager DVDs.
