Enterprise Takes 4-Hour Slot on Sci-Fi Mondays
The Sci-Fi Channel is devoting its entire Monday evening lineup — four primetime hours a week — to Star Trek: Enterprise starting this Monday, January 8. The Scott Bakula-led series premieres on the cable network with "Broken Bow" starting at 7 p.m. ET/PT, 6:00 Central (check your local listings). The two-hour pilot will be followed by "Fight or Flight" and "Strange New World," and subsequent Monday nights will continue the series in original airdate order, four episodes a week, transitioning from the first to the second season (with "Shockwave") on February 19.
Unfortunately, the second Monday, Jan. 15, will conflict with the launch of the interactive "Star Trek: The Next Generation 2.0" on G4 TV (in most of the U.S.). However, that show will run one hour each weekday night, at 9 p.m. ET (related story).
And as a reminder, Star Trek: Voyager has now taken its daily timeslot on Spike TV with two episodes every weekday at 5 and 6 p.m. (an hour earlier in Central). So now, every Star Trek series except for Animated appears in a regular timeslot somewhere on cable. (Anyone care to make a call to Cartoon Network?) For ongoing information as to what is airing where, see our "Choices, Choices" article.
Takei to be "in the House"
George Takei will guest-star in at least two episodes of Disney Channel's upcoming new series Cory in the House, a spinoff of the network's hit comedy That's So Raven. In the show, the title character's father is hired as the personal chef to the newly elected president, so the teenager finds himself living in the White House. Takei will play "Ronald," the snooty head steward on Air Force One, in the premiere episode airing next Friday, January 12, and once more later in the season.
Also guest-starring in the same episodes with Takei is Don Stark, who played "Ashrock" in DS9's "Melora" and "Nicky the Nose" in "Star Trek: First Contact." In Cory Stark will play Russian Prime Minister "Schuzoff."
Be sure to watch for Takei on Monday, January 22, in NBC's Heroes as the father of time-travelling fanboy Hiro Nakamura, played by Masi Oka.
Garr Recovering from Aneurysm
The beloved, quirky actress who played "Roberta Lincoln" in "Assignment: Earth" is reported to be "recovering nicely" after suffering a brain aneurysm on December 21. Teri Garr was admitted to the hospital after her 13-year-old daughter Molly couldn't wake her up and called 9-1-1. Garr underwent a coil embolism and spent the holidays in the hospital with her two brothers at her bedside, according to various news reports. "She's alert. She's sitting up. She's talking. The prognosis is very, very good," Garr's representative told People magazine. "Her humor seems to be intact."
Garr — who is approximately 60 years old (different sources give a different age) — has also been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, having gone public with her condition in 2002 and becoming a leading advocate for MS awareness. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Garr as she recuperates.
Professor Speaks about Trek Classes in Podcast
The Tahoe Daily Tribune has posted a podcast of an interview with Daryl Frazetti, an anthropology professor at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) teaching courses in Trek-related subjects, including an on-line class called "Xenolinguistics: The Anthropological Linguistic Study of Alien Languages" (such as Klingon and Vulcan). In the podcast Frazetti speaks about his efforts to put together a "pretty sound academic proposal" in order to get the Trek courses approved by the department, and also how popular the subjects are with students. You can find the MP3 audio at this TahoeDailyTribune.com link — click on "LTCC classes go to the final frontier ... and beyond - Dec. 29, 2006."

Nikki Cox Marries Jay Mohr
Our little Sarjenka has gotten married. Nikki Cox, who appeared in TNG's "Pen Pals" at the age of 10, tied the knot with comedian Jay Mohr on December 29 in Bel Air, according to news reports. This is the first marriage for Cox, now 28 — she was formerly engaged to Bobcat Goldthwait — and the second for Mohr. They met when Mohr guest-starred on Cox's Las Vegas. Mohr rose to fame as Tom Cruise's nemesis agent in "Jerry Maguire" and later starred in Fox's Action and hosted NBC's Last Comic Standing.
Production on Park's Raines Halted
Linda Park's new show Raines, a midseason replacement starring Jeff Goldblum, has ceased production after seven episodes. NBC had ordered 13, but ultimately decided it only needed a half-dozen segments beyond the pilot. Raines will still get a primetime slot, however, on Friday nights at 9:00 starting in March (replacing Nikki Cox's Las Vegas). Park plays a uniformed cop in the quirky "L.A. noir" drama in which Goldblum's detective character solves crimes by talking to the dead.
