Daily Variety is reporting that
Star Trek: Voyager Executive Producer, Brannon Braga, has just signed a three-year television deal to create, along with Rick Berman, the next
Star Trek series. The deal, in the estimated high-seven figure range, will also allow Braga to develop and produce other series for Paramount as well.
"Brannon is an exceptional writer-producer who has been an instrumental member of the Paramount family for the last 10 years," said Tom Mazza, Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs for the network TV division of the Paramount Television Group. "We are thrilled to be collaborating with him in creating the next series in the Star Trek franchise."
Braga began his tour of duty in Starfleet back in the fourth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and has written over 75 different Star Trek episodes, including "All Good Things..." (the TNG finale). Braga also co-wrote the story for this summer's megahit "Mission: Impossible 2," as well as contributing to the story for the Star Trek films "Star Trek Generations" and "Star Trek: First Contact." "I've been in the fortunate position of having had some other offers from time to time, but I feel at home here," said Braga. "This will be the first time I've had the opportunity to create a Star Trek series." Details on the new series are still forthcoming, but Braga does say, "It's not enough to plop another captain in a starship. Not to sound pretentious, but it's got to be something that takes Star Trek into the 21st century." Please note: All production information is subject to change.
