Ensuring a continuity of look and technical expertise,
Michael Okuda is the newest addition to the production staff of the fifth
Star Trek series, remaining in the role of Scenic Arts Supervisor. Okuda is responsible for the show's control panels, signage and other visual aspects of the set, including alien written languages. He has worked on all seven seasons of
Star Trek: The Next Generation,
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and
Star Trek: Voyager, as well as each
Star Trek film since "
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," and has been recognized with several Emmy nominations in the Visual Effects category. He is not only famous for designing the signature look of Federation computer readouts, but is also known among the cast and crew for putting inside jokes on control panel buttons that are too small to be seen on screen.
As one of the foremost experts on Star Trek history and an avid aficionado of the current-day space program, Okuda also serves as technical consultant to the writing staff. His credentials in this area include co-authoring "The Star Trek Encyclopedia," "The Star Trek Chronology," and "Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual."
Okuda joins production designers Herman Zimmerman and John Eaves on creating the look of the new series, for which a title and production start date have not yet been announced. Please note: All production information is subject to change.
