"
Shockwave, Part II" and "
Carbon Creek," the first two episodes of the sophomore season of
Enterprise, have completed photography and are now in post-production.
As previously reported, the first episode set to air this fall was actually the second one to go into production. The conclusion to the season cliffhanger "Shockwave" saw the full cast reunite after summer hiatus. But "Carbon Creek" was scheduled first because that episode involves only three principal cast members, Scott Bakula (Captain Archer), Connor Trinneer (Trip Tucker) and Jolene Blalock (T'Pol).
According to executive producer Brannon Braga at a recent press junket (see related story), "Creek" relates a time in 1957 when Vulcans secretly visited Earth. The episode's flashbacks focus on T'Pol's great-grandmother, played by Blalock. It began production on July 26, on location near San Bernardino, California, for two days. Blalock and the guest cast returned to the Paramount lot that Friday to begin shooting on sets depicting the titular Pennsylvania town, as well as the bridge of a 20th-century Vulcan ship. Bakula and Trinneer reported to work on Monday, July 8, to shoot the present-day (22nd-century) scenes on the standing Enterprise sets.
On Wednesday, July 10, everyone was back, as Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed), Anthony Montgomery (Travis Mayweather), Linda Park (Hoshi Sato) and John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox) picked up where they left off — under threat by the Suliban Silik, played by John Fleck. Fortunately for Fleck and the other guest actors who had to endure the very hot and confining Suliban makeup, new air conditioning systems were installed in the Enterprise soundstages during hiatus. Vaughn Armstrong and Gary Graham, as Admiral Forrest and Ambassador Soval respectively, also returned for the second-parter during the seven-day shooting schedule, which took place entirely in the show's three Paramount soundstages. That episode wrapped last Thursday.
On Friday, the 19th, the crew did some exterior pickup shots for "Creek" on Paramount's backlot, and then began production on the third episode, "Minefield," which is currently in production. In that installment, according to Braga, "Reed gets pinned to the hull of the ship by an alien mine, and Archer has to go out and save him." (More about that next week.)
The second season will premiere September 18 on UPN.
