Matt Roe, who played the Bajoran Vedek "
Latha Mabrin" who was assassinated in the opening of
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's "
The Darkness and the Light," is being remembered for his varied talents. The screenwriter-producer-actor died Oct. 9 of multiple myeloma at the age of 51.
As an actor, Roe appeared in films such as "Naked Gun 33 1/3," "Child's Play 2" and "Puppet Master." Besides DS9, he guest-starred on various TV shows including Time Trax, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Judging Amy, Who's the Boss, L.A. Law, Hill Street Blues and Murder She Wrote.
Roe also was active behind the camera, according to Daily Variety. He founded a film production company called Clear Concepts, based in Denver, Houston and later Mexico, where he first began directing. After selling the company, he returned to Los Angeles to produce and direct commercials. Roe wrote several screenplays including "Irresistible Impulse" and "Tainted Love" for Everest Pictures, and "The Minion," which starred Dolph Lundgren.
He is survived by a daughter, a son, his parents, a brother and three sisters.
There will be a memorial at All Saints Church in Pasadena Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Lili Clare Foundation, 1871 9th St., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
