Shatner Signs: Live Appearance to Sign New Novel
He is the 18th most iconic character in TV history, according to a new list from Entertainment Weekly magazine and TV Land, and you can see him in person as William Shatner (James T. Kirk) is set to sign copies of his new fiction novel, "Star Trek Academy: Collision Course," on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Book Soup in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. This is a ticketed event that you can enter by purchasing the book (click here) to have it signed by Mr. Shatner.
If you are planning a quick trip to Vegas, you have another opportunity to get your book signed. On Monday, November 19, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Tahiti Village Consolidated Resorts, Mr. Shatner will be signing his book, but there is a slight catch. You have to sign up for a visit, and spend four days and three nights, starting on Nov 17. If you want more information on this, we suggest you call this number for details: 1-888-30-GONOW. Just so you know, they will give you a bit of a hard sell for the condos! It's Vegas, baby.
The new novel from Pocket Books, co-authored with his writing collaborators Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, goes back to 2249 when the young but emotionally haunted Kirk is a mere 17-years old and full of talent and ambition, just no experience. At the same time, a young Spock is also trying to prove to his parents that he is a true Vulcan. Set in San Francisco, "Collision Course" is something new: Kirk and Spock in their earliest days, setting the stage for their future together as crewmates. (Note: The book does contain a disclaimer saying that the work is a product of the author's imagination and unique vision, presumably to deflect any speculation that the novel is in any way connected to the "Star Trek" movie currently in production.)
Shatner Speaks: New Audio Recording of "Exodus"
Always a man with a few irons in the fire, look for a new audio recording in the coming weeks featuring the legendary Shatner voice narrating the biblical book of "Exodus" with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and a chorale group of 350, all under the direction of David Itkin. This performance was recorded live in 2005, but is only now becoming available for purchase or download. This recording will be available on iTunes and elsewhere. Stay tuned for more details!
Shatner Dances: New Ballet
OK, he's not dancing in the strict sense of the word. But now that we have your attention, one other item of interest (one that has been mentioned previously in the press by Mr. Shatner) is a DVD of "Gonzo Ballet," a balletic interpretation of songs from his "Has Been" album, as performed by the Milwaukee Ballet. The video of the ballet will be a documentary, with performance, and focus on the literal "birth" of a ballet. Again, there is no release date set for this title, but don't say we didn't warn you!
