Westmore Collection at Auction on Saturday

A Star Trek pinball machine, early sketches of Seven of Nine, makeup chairs which have held innumerable Trek stars, and a Rolls Royce are all part of a collection of personal memorabilia being sold this Saturday to the highest bidders. The items are the property of Michael Westmore, the Emmy Award-winning Makeup Supervisor and chief designer of alien prosthetics for all the latter-day Star Trek series and movies from The Next Generation through Enterprise, collected during his 18 years of working in the Trek franchise.

The Westmore collection consists of 30 lots which include quite a few clothing items such as crew jackets (e.g., Voyager Season 7, "Star Trek: First Contact," etc.), along with conceptual drawings, a Ferengi makeup kit, a 1978 Bally pinball machine, and various odds and ends such as invitations to wrap parties and screenings, and the program from the 1986 Academy Awards where Westmore won his Oscar for "Mask." But the most notable items on the auction list include two antique barber chairs that Westmore and his staff used in the makeup department on the Paramount lot to apply prosthetic appliances to Trek actors; and his 1982 Rolls Royce Silver Spur which he used to attend Oscar, Emmy and other formal events over the years. The Rolls Royce — which at 25 years old has only 69,000 miles on it — is listed with an estimated value of a shockingly conservative $15,000-$20,000.

The auction will take place Saturday, October 20, through Ira & Larry Goldberg Auctioneers in Beverly Hills. The Westmore Collection will be one group of about 1,000 lots being sold that day, and should be on the block around 2:00 p.m. Pacific time. You can participate in the auction live either in person, by telephone, or online through eBay. You can also submit bids in advance with an online form, or by fax or snail mail.

You can view the Westmore collection by visiting this page at Goldberg Coins & Collectibles. To learn how you may bid, click on "bidding" in the top menu.
