Takei Returns to Stern Show This Week

When Howard Stern made his satellite radio premiere on Sirius in January, he surprised the world by introducing George Takei as the official "voice" of the new Howard Stern Show. Takei, however, was only in studio for a week, and did pre-recorded segments for regular play on the show (related story). But this week he's back in New York to banter live with Stern and his on-air cohorts.

According to a rundown on HowardStern.com of Monday's show, the "Sulu" actor presented the controversial radio personality with a Freedom of Speech Award from Talkers magazine, which Takei accepted on Stern's behalf over the weekend. On that topic, Takei mentioned that he had just seen a play in New York called "The Lieutenant of Inishmore," which he said would have been censored if it wasn't for people like Stern.

At the top of the show Takei sang a song he wrote called "The One and Only Howard Stern," to the tune of "Sentimental Journey" — and said that he came up with the lyrics in the shower. Stern then asked if Takei's partner Brad was in the shower with him ... and much of the ensuing conversation continued in Stern's typical sexually explicit manner.

The show rundown also includes this passage: "George told Howard he still does Star Trek conventions and that there are special events planned for later this year when the show celebrates its 40-year anniversary. When George said William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy also attend the conventions, Howard wondered if he was upset with the amount of praise Shatner has received because of his role as Denny Crane on Boston Legal. However, George replied he's not bothered by William's success on the show, largely in part because, to him, the character is William and doesn't require him to do any acting.

"George proceeded to acknowledge he and William don't talk to each other at the conventions because of their strained relationship, although they are 'civil' to one another. George did say, though, that he and Leonard Nimoy do talk and go out to dinner when they see each other at the conventions, while also pointing out William doesn't seem to talk to anyone when the people from Star Trek get together."

WARNING: The Howard Stern show contains uncensored, explicit sexual material, unsuitable for younger listeners.
