William Shatner is still raking in the honors for his portrayal of "Denny Crane" in
Boston Legal (Tuesdays at 10 on ABC). Now he's received a nomination from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).
Shatner was nominated in the category "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series," with his co-star James Spader among his competition.
Christopher Plummer, who so brilliantly portrayed "General Chang" in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (and reprised the role in the "Klingon Academy" video game), also received a prestigious nod. He was nominated in the category "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries" for his portrayal of Cardinal Bernard Law in the Showtime movie "Our Fathers."
The 12th annual SAG Awards ceremony will take place Sunday, January 29, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast simultaneously on TNT and TBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. MT. The nominations were announced Friday morning.
Besides those two individual nominations, numerous Star Trek veterans were named among the ensemble awards. In the Comedy Ensemble category, Rene Auberjonois ("Odo") is listed alongside Shatner as part of the cast of Boston Legal.
Also under TV Comedy Ensemble, Desperate Housewives is nominated with a cast that includes Teri Hatcher ("Lt. B.G. Robinson" in "The Outrageous Okona"), Alfre Woodard ("Lily Sloane" in "Star Trek: First Contact"), Steven Culp ("Major Hayes" in the third season of Enterprise), Mark Moses ("Henry Archer" in "Broken Bow" and "Naroq" in "Riddles") and Brenda Strong ("Rashella" in "When the Bough Breaks").
In TV Drama Ensemble, Lost is recognized for its outstanding cast, which includes Daniel Dae Kim ("Gotana-Retz" in "Blink of an Eye" and "Corporal Chang" in the third season of Enterprise) and Terry O'Quinn ("Admiral Pressman" in "The Pegasus").
Competing against Lost is the cast of Six Feet Under, which includes Joanna Cassidy ("T'Les" in the fourth season of Enterprise) and James Cromwell (who had several Trek roles, most notably "Zefram Cochrane" in "Star Trek: First Contact" and "Broken Bow").
Under the category "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture," the ensemble of "Good Night, and Good Luck" is nominated, which includes Frank Langella ("Minister Jaro Essa" in three episodes of Deep Space Nine) and Ray Wise ("Arturis" in "Hope and Fear" and "Liko" in "Who Watches The Watchers?").
