Showbiz Roundup: Spiner, Montgomery, Billingsley, etc.

UPDATE (07.18.03): Anthony Montgomery's Friday night show at the Comedy Store has been postponed due to a professional conflict. STARTREK.COM will announce the new date when he reschedules.

Brent Spiner in Logan's "Aviator"

Brent Spiner ("Data") is doing another movie written by his friend John Logan (screenwriter of "Star Trek Nemesis"). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spiner has recently been added to the cast of "Aviator," directed by Martin Scorsese. Spiner is playing the part of Robert Gross, the president of aircraft company Lockheed, in the biographical movie about Howard Hughes, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the obsessive billionaire. The movie is currently in production, and targeted for release in December 2004. Also on the cast list is Adam Scott, who played a Defiant conn officer in "Star Trek: First Contact."

Have You Seen... John Billingsley on the Big Screen?

If you've been to the movies in the last couple of weeks, you might have been pleasantly surprised to see a bigger-than-life and very human John Billingsley on the silver screen. Billingsley (otherwise known as "Dr. Phlox") is featured prominently in the trailer for "Out of Time" in several scenes with star Denzel Washington. You can view the trailer online at www.OutOfTimeMovie.com, or at IMDB.com or Yahoo! Movies. The crime thriller is tentatively slated for release in October, according to IMDB.

McNeill, Picardo Keeping Busy

Robert Duncan McNeill ("Tom Paris") is getting very comfortable in his director's beret (figuratively speaking, of course). According to his official site, McNeill is lined up to direct his third Enterprise episode starting in late August (stay tuned to STARTREK.COM for updates). McNeill previously helmed "Cold Front" and "The Breach," along with several Star Trek: Voyager episodes. This fall, he's also slated for a trip to Wilmington, North Carolina to direct an episode of a new series called One Tree Hill, which will debut on the WB network in January. In addition, according to the site, McNeill is developing a new television series concept with Voyager castmate Robert Picardo.

McNeill directed the sixth episode of Showtime's newest hit series Dead Like Me (related story), and that segment, called "Reaper Madness," is tentatively set to air on Friday, August 8, at 10:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, 9:00 Central, with repeat showings throughout the following week. Check your local listings.

Picardo himself is keeping busy these days in front of the camera, having recently been seen in a guest spot on The Dead Zone, and in commercials for The Lyon's Den, the Rob Lowe series debuting on NBC this fall. Picardo is a featured guest star in the premiere episode of the new legal drama. Picardo has also recently completed filming on Warner Brothers' "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," where he plays the vice-president of the Acme Corporation. That movie is due out in November.
