Star Trek alum and versatile character actor Graham P. Jarvis passed away last week at his home in Pacific Palisades. He was 72.
Jarvis, who died on Wednesday of multiple myeloma, is familiar to Trek fans as the officious Starfleet surplus depot quartermaster Klim Dokachin from Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Unification, Part I." Jarvis also had a wide-ranging career in movies, television and theater that spanned five decades.
Born in Toronto, Jarvis began acting onstage at 19 in a Virginia theater company production of "The Seven Year Itch." He went on to attend Williams College and moved to New York City in the early '50s to pursue a theater career. He studied acting at the American Theater Wing and was an original member of the Lincoln Center Repertory Theater. On television, he appeared in such series as The Odd Couple, Starsky and Hutch, ER, The X-Files and 7th Heaven. He is perhaps best known for his role as Charlie Haggers in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. On the big screen, Jarvis appeared in such films as "The Out-of-Towners" and "Silkwood."
Jarvis was active in community affairs and taught English to youths at Camp Holton, a juvenile rehabilitation and probation center in the San Fernando Valley.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnna Rader; two children, Matthew and Alex; and a sister, Kitty Blair. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his favorite charities: Common Cause, Amnesty International and the Democratic National Committee.
