Star Trek alum and veteran television actress Kathie Browne McGavin passed away last week in Beverly Hills. She was 63.
Browne McGavin, a breast cancer survivor, died April 8 of natural causes. She will always be remembered by Star Trek fans as Scalosian queen Deela from the Original Series episode "Wink of an Eye." Browne McGavin's prolific television career spanned the '50s, '60s and '70s and encompassed such popular series as The Love Boat, Perry Mason and Bonanza.
Browne McGavin was born in San Luis Obispo and began acting at age 6. She moved to Hollywood in her teens, studying at Los Angeles City College and acting in small theaters. She was eventually spotted in a production of "Cat On a Hot Tin Roof," and went on to win parts in such series as Gunsmoke. She was also featured in several feature films, including "The Brass Bottle," with Tony Randall and Barbara Eden and "Brainstorm," with Trek captain Jeffrey Hunter ("Christopher Pike").
Browne McGavin married actor Darren McGavin in 1969. The couple went on to co-found a production company, Taurean Films, in 1972.
Browne McGavin is survived by her husband, who requests that any memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
