Showbiz Roundup: Shimerman, Gerrold, Dunst and The Rock

Shimerman on Girls Club

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Armin Shimerman ("Quark") appears in tonight's premiere of Girls Club on Fox. Produced by David E. Kelley (The Practice, Ally McBeal), the show focuses on three female lawyers, with Shimerman playing another lawyer in tonight's pilot. Kelley also produces Boston Public, starring Star Trek: Voyager's Jeri Ryan ("Seven of Nine").

TOS Writer Gerrold's "The Martian Child"

David Gerrold, who penned the classic Original Series episode "The Trouble With Tribbles" and shared story credit for "The Cloud Minders" is seeing his science fiction short story "The Martian Child" being adapted for the big screen. New Line Cinema has purchased rights to the story, to be adapted by screenwriters Jonathan Tolins and Seth Bass. The story concerns a man who adopts a child, the begins to believe the child's claims of being a Martian.

A-List Star Trek Alums - Projects in the Works

Two of today's biggest film stars, Kirsten Dunst and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, both have Star Trek credits in their past and have new projects in development. Dunst appeared almost a decade ago in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Dark Page" as Hedril, and starred in this year's smash "Spider-Man." Columbia Pictures has just bought the rights to "The Crimson Petal and the White" with Dunst in mind to play a 19th Century London prostitute who becomes involved with a powerful family. The bestselling novel the script will be based on was written by Michele Faber.

Meanwhile, Johnson (who appeared as The Champion in the Voyager episode "Tsunkatse") is looking forward to starring in Warner Brothers' live-action adaptation of Cartoon Network's Johnny Bravo. Johnson would star as the titular character, a muscle-bound, pompadour-haired man who constantly proves to be his own worst enemy.
