Stage Roundup: Theatre and Music

Most of Star Trek's stars also have connections to theatre, having honed their craft on the stage and return often to performing live theatre.

UPDATE: John Billingsley Goes on "Picnic"

John Billingsley ("Dr. Phlox" in Enterprise) will be directed by his wife, Bonita Friedericy, in a reading of William Inge's 1952 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Picnic." The performance will take place at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre in Coldwater Canyon Park in Los Angeles, September 6-7 (Friday and Saturday), 8:00 p.m. both nights. The reading is part of the "Once Upon a Canyon Night" series hosted by the TreePeople organization. For more information call (888) 922-3846 or visit the TreePeople Events Calendar site.

UPDATE: James Horan Handles "Rattlesnake"

Also the weekend after Labor Day, James Horan, the mysterious "Future Guy" who gives orders to the Suliban Cabal in Enterprise, will perform a one-hour, one-man show called "Rattlesnake in a Cooler" by Frank South. Horan will give three performances only, September 6-8 (8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:00 p.m. Sunday) at the Celtic Arts Center in Studio City, California. Tickets are $10. For more information and reservations, call (818) 760-8322 or visit the Celtic Arts Center site.

"Tea at Five" Continues

Star Trek: Voyager's Kate Mulgrew ("Kathryn Janeway") continues her run of "Tea at Five" by Matthew Lombardo, a one-woman show about the life of Katharine Hepburn at the Cleveland Playhouse (see related article here) through September 3. She'll then take the show directly to the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA for a run beginning September 8, and playing through September 22. Tickets for both runs are on sale now. [How about a West Coast run, Kate? - Ed.]

Tim Russ Plays "Dracula" Fundraiser

In Los Angeles, Mulgrew's fellow Voyager cast member Tim Russ ("Tuvok") will be lending his musical talents to help raise funds for an upcoming production of "Dracula, A Musical Nightmare" at the Sacred Fools Theatre Company. On Tuesday, September 3, Russ and his band will play a fundraiser at hip Silver Lake sushi joint ZEN, 2609 Hyperion Avenue.

The 21-and-over fundraiser event costs a mere $10, which includes a drink ticket and a free buffet (while it lasts), beginning at 9:00 p.m., with Russ and his band taking the stage at 10:00 p.m. After Russ plays, local band Throttle Back Sparky will play. For more information, visit both the Sacred Fools site and the official Tim Russ site (both below) and check the "appearances" page. "Dracula, A Musical Nightmare," the production benefiting from the fundraiser opens September 26, and runs through November 2.

Star Trek Alum Bari Hochwald in "Fedunn"
