Sensor Sweep: Siddig, Krige, Bowman "Reign"; etc.

Members of Star Trek's long list of alums make appearances almost daily in films and television. The following information is subject to change, so be sure to check your local listings for theaters and showtimes.

Premiering in Theaters This Weekend

The futuristic medieval action-fantasy dragon thriller "Reign of Fire" starring Matthew McConaughey breathes fire into the box office tonight, with some prominent Star Trek alumni involved. The movie's director is Rob Bowman, who cut his teeth on Star Trek: The Next Generation with several episodes beginning with "Where No One Has Gone Before" (Bowman is most famous for his work on The X-Files series and movie). Alice Krige, who originated the role of the Borg Queen in "Star Trek: First Contact" and reprised it in Star Trek: Voyager's finale "Endgame," appears in the movie as the mother of co-star Christian Bale's character. And Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Alexander Siddig (Dr. Julian Bashir) plays the character "Ajay."

And while you're at the movies this weekend, remember to keep an eye out for the "Star Trek: Nemesis" trailer. You can watch it on your computer at http://nemesis.startrek.com, but there's nothing like seeing it on the big screen!

Casting News

John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox) has been cast in a supporting roll in the crime thriller "Out of Time" starring Denzel Washington, according to his official Web site, johnbillingsley.net. Billingsley will be filming until sometime in September, overlapping with his Enterprise shooting schedule. The movie is expected to be released sometime next year.

A couple of famous Voyager guest stars have also just landed new roles, according to today's Hollywood trade papers. Daily Variety reports that Jason Alexander (Kurros in "Think Tank") has found a new calling as "The Man Who Saved Christmas." The made-for-TV movie is based on a true story about a toy inventor (Alexander) who helps convince Congress not to cancel the Christmas holiday during World War I. It starts shooting in August, and will air on CBS during the holidays next season.

The Rock, who appeared in "Tsunkatse" as "The Champion," has been attached to topline an untitled buddy action movie being produced at Columbia Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is described as a comedic take on the 1985 Harrison Ford starrer "Witness," and will serve as a vehicle to display the Rock's comedic and physical talents in a fish-out-of-water setting. "We saw him do some of the stuff on Saturday Night Live and thought he showed some great range," said co-writer Mitchel Katlin. The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, is already in business with Columbia after agreeing to play King Kamehameha in a movie about the Hawaiian figure's life story. Both movies are still in the scripting stage.
