While the major networks tend to crank out reruns or B-grade fare during the hot summer months, the USA Network's new original series
The Dead Zone, featuring contributions from
Star Trek alumni both in front of and behind the camera, aims to deliver a supernatural drama with quality, starting this coming Sunday.
Co-Executive Produced by TNG, DS9 and Voyager alum Michael Piller, the series is an adaptation, extension and expansion on the characters and events from the Stephen King novel of the same name. Piller is also working with his son Shawn Piller, who is serving as a Producer on the series.
"Shawn's and my strategy from the start has been to create a series that would first and foremost satisfy two audience blocks: The Stephen King fan base who love the book, and the Star Trek audience that has followed my work in the past," said the elder Piller, "If we can get those people to tune in and check us out, I'm confident they'll like what they're seeing."
Starring Anthony Michael Hall as Johnny Smith, a man who suffers a brutal automobile accident and emerges from a coma six years later with the gift (or curse) of second sight, The Dead Zone also features several Star Trek alumni amongst its main cast. Starring as Smith's love interest Sarah Bracknell is DS9 alum Nicole deBoer ("Ezri Dax") and playing Reverend Gene Purdy, Smith's antagonist, is David Ogden Stiers, who played Dr. Timicin in the TNG episode "Half a Life."
The Dead Zone premieres Sunday, June 16 on the USA Network, check local listings for airtimes.
