Two
Star Trek alums took home coveted Tony Awards in New York last night, and another
Star Trek actor might be in the same position next year at this time.
Although normally honored for her acting abilities, Whoopi Goldberg ("Guinan") took home a Tony last night for her contributions as co-producer for the Best Musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
Frank Langella, who appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Minister Jaro Essa, beginning with the episode "The Homecoming," took home a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his work in the play "Fortune's Fool."
The Tony Awards are given out annually to recognize excellence in achievement for plays "on Broadway" (a classification that has more to do with the number of seats in a theatre as opposed to its actual street address) over the past season.
One of the big musicals in preparation for next season is "Dance of the Vampires," a musical spoof based on the 1967 film "The Fearless Vampire Hunters." Already signed for the musical is another DS9 star, Rene Auberjonois, who spent seven seasons playing the shapeshifting Odo. Auberjonois is no stranger to the Broadway stage, having appeared in multiple productions over the years and having won a Tony Award himself for the 1969 play "Coco."
