Showbiz Roundup - Roswell, Whoopi & Russ

Roswell Finale Set

UPN's Roswell, which features several Star Trek connections, has been cancelled, with its final episode set to air on Tuesday, May 14. The series, which combined science fiction with teen angst, counted among its Executive Producers Jonathan Frakes ("William Riker," as well as directing both "Star Trek: First Contact" and "Star Trek: Insurrection") and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Co-Executive Producer and veteran Star Trek writer Ronald D. Moore.

The Roswell finale will tie up all loose ends and provide closure for the show's dedicated fans.

"I would like to thank Twentieth Century Fox Television, UPN and especially our fans whose combined efforts helped get us a third season for Roswell," said Jason Katims, another of the show's Executive Producers. "Ronald D. Moore and I had the fans very much on our minds when we were writing this final episode. We felt they deserved a great ending."

Whoopi Exits Hollywood Squares

Star Trek: The Next Generation alum Whoopi Goldberg ("Guinan") is vacating her spot in the center square. The Oscar-winning actress, who has appeared in the center square on the popular syndicated game show Hollywood Squares announced through a spokesperson that she and the gameshow, which she also Executive Produces, would be parting company.

The game show, currently finishing its fourth season, will continue through at least two more seasons. Host Tom Bergeron (who recently appeared as the trader D'Marr on the Enterprise episode "Oasis") was mentioned by Daily Variety as a possible replacement for Bryant Gumbel on the CBS Early Show.

Tim Russ Online Address Change

Star Trek: Voyager's Tim Russ ("Tuvok") has moved. His official site has been changed to www.TimRussWebPage.net. According to his site, "Some guy in Taipei thought he would financially benefit by abducting Tim's .com domain name," prompting the change. Russ' fans can find the site at the new address unscathed.
